Note: This policy applies to the Pack the Kids mobile application and website (packthekids.co.za), operated by Remote South (Pty) Ltd ("we", "our" or "us"), a company registered in South Africa. We process personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

1. Who We Are

Pack the Kids is operated by Remote South (Pty) Ltd, registered in South Africa. We provide a platform for families to discover child-friendly activities and venues across South Africa.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

2.1 Information you provide directly

Name and email address (when you create an account)
Profile information (display name, avatar)
Activity listings, events and venue details (if you register as a host)
Reviews, ratings and comments you submit
Messages or enquiries you send to us

2.2 Information we collect automatically

Location data (when you grant permission, to show nearby activities)
Device information (device type, operating system, app version)
Usage data (screens viewed, searches performed, features used)
Crash reports and performance data
IP address and general geographic region

2.3 Information from third parties

If you sign in via Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address from those services
Analytics data from third-party analytics providers

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information to:

Create and manage your account
Show you relevant activities and events near your location
Allow hosts to manage their listings and events
Enable reviews and ratings on the platform
Send you service-related notifications (booking confirmations, account alerts)
Send promotional communications where you have opted in
Improve and personalise your experience in the app
Detect, prevent and respond to fraud or security issues
Comply with legal obligations under South African law
Serve advertisements via Google AdMob (see Section 7)

4. Legal Basis for Processing (POPIA)

Under POPIA, we rely on the following grounds to process your personal information:

Consent — for location access, optional notifications and marketing communications
Performance of a contract — to provide the app features you use
Legitimate interests — to improve the app, prevent fraud and maintain security
Legal obligation — to comply with applicable South African law

5. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with:

Supabase — our database and authentication provider (data may be stored on servers outside South Africa; we have appropriate safeguards in place)
Mapbox — for map rendering and location services
RevenueCat — for in-app purchase and subscription management (iOS only)
Google AdMob — for serving advertisements
Analytics providers — to understand app usage (data is aggregated and anonymised where possible)
Hosts and venues — when you make an enquiry or booking, your contact details may be shared with the relevant host
Law enforcement — where required by law or court order

6. Location Data

Pack the Kids requests access to your device's location to show you nearby activities. You can:

Grant location access only while using the app ("While in Use")
Deny location access — the app will still work but you will need to search manually
Revoke location access at any time in your device settings

We do not store your precise location on our servers. Location is used only in real time to filter results.

7. Advertising

We use Google AdMob to display advertisements in the app. AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier and usage data to serve personalised or contextual ads. You can:

Opt out of personalised advertising via your device settings (iOS: Settings → Privacy → Apple Advertising; Android: Settings → Google → Ads)
Reset your advertising identifier at any time

8. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law or for legitimate business purposes (e.g. billing records).

Aggregated, anonymised data may be retained indefinitely for analytics purposes.

9. Your Rights Under POPIA

As a data subject under POPIA, you have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you
Correct inaccurate or incomplete personal information
Delete your personal information (subject to legal obligations)
Object to the processing of your personal information
Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent
Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa

10. Children's Privacy

Pack the Kids is designed for parents and adult guardians to find activities for their children. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.

11. Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse or disclosure. These include encrypted data transmission (HTTPS/TLS), access controls and regular security reviews. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

12. International Transfers

Some of our service providers (including Supabase, Mapbox and RevenueCat) are based outside of South Africa. Where your personal information is transferred to another country, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with POPIA requirements.

13. Cookies & Tracking (Website)

Our website (packthekids.co.za) may use cookies and similar technologies to improve your experience and understand how the site is used. By continuing to use the website, you consent to the use of cookies. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect website functionality.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the app or by email. Continued use of Pack the Kids after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.
